Talking

Bonjour wiremodders,

Long time listener, first time caller; having played cs since the bad ol' days of bunnyhopping and wallhax I decided to do the honourable thing and buy gmod10 after using gmod9 for quite some time.

Obviously wiremod was an instant download but one annoyance is the inability to snap to an angle (i.e shift+e while physgunning) while using easy weld. I havn't seen this solution posted anywhere but that may be because it is so simple that everybody finds it blatently obvious and does not need to be said (despite many video tutorialists strugling with lining up beacons etc).

Here is my retardedly simple fix. So simple it works:

1. Create an axis using smartsnap and use physgun to line-up/freeze the prop
2. Weld the props together (easyweld not required thanks to axis...)
3. Remove the axis by hitting "Reload" (default key "r") while pointing at the prop with the axis tool

(Note: step 1. may require Enable for all tools/entities to be checked in smartsnap options menu)

Pretty much guarantees lined up props... very handy.

If anybody can lua this (possible?) into a working stool (or if anyone knows of one that already exists...) that would be pretty sweet too. If anybody can spot potential problems with this technique please let my minge-ass know!

The usual trick is to shift-e everything in place before easy welding. If it's lined up properly, it usually stays that way as long as you treat the second and third clicks as a fast double-click.

I am using the axis way all the time, the only downside is that when doing so the props is spaced farther away.

Doing the double click easy weld feels "inaccurate" even if i can double click stupidly fast it will not feel "straight" because all it takes is for you to move the mouse one pixel and it will make a huge difference later on.

Also, once welded on an axis or likewise, when you try to snap something that isn't welded on it's center axis it will never return to absolute angles.

What i would like to have is a easy NON rotation weld. Meaning it works exactly like the axis tool except it welds and stays perfectly still.

That way i can trust it to have the exact 45 degree angle as an example.

I usually use the pre-aligning method described by Fatal. I'm not sure why Garry himself hasn't added the Shift key snap to the Easy Weld tool.

Edit: Also, welcome

I make one that does. Right now only BBS has it.

Same here.

I really think that it should be publicly released, please TAD!

Mine too. It has a few of mine, a color/material stool and a freezing stool.
