We seem to be having a growing problem here in the wiremod community, from the forums, to the servers, on irc, and even between people on steam and other communication venues. This problem is Elitism. If you make a little extension, or some contraption or piece of code, that does not entitle you to be "Mr. Awesome".
There are some people that do deserve respect for putting lots of hard work into making things people can enjoy, but when you make something for the sole purpose of having people look at you like a super star, then you should take a step back and find something fun to do. We have had a few "incidents" around this elitists bull shit. If somebody steals your contraption or Expression gate, big, fucking, deal. If you want to prance around and be a "wiremod super star" people are going to steal your shit. Be mature about it instead of raging.
Wiremod.com moderators and admins are sick of having to mediate two people over an incident involving stolen code. If you don't want your code stolen in the first place, then don't play on a public server. If you really have to be credited for your two lines of noclipping code, then put in a comment. But seriously, grow up.
For fucks sake, Wiremod is released under the GPL. It's open source. When you say "HERE! LOOK AT THIS OMg CONTRAPTION I MADE... but you can't have it." That's not open source, that's being microsoft. (insert random rant about garry here)
Stolen code isn't the only problem, wiremod servers seems to be a bit of a problem. If you want to show your server off as a wiremod server, what you do on that server is up to you, but when it comes onto the forums or irc and you get these "server wars", that's pretty immature and we don't like to have to deal with that drama.
My point is, people are really starting to get narcissistic about wiremod, and it's really ruining the community. This website is about the mod, not what you make with it, not your server, not your code (but we do accommodate for them). Now me personally, as a moderator, won't do anything about it. I'm not going to talk to people and tell them "Hey, be more mature about that" and neither should you. (There have been a few really, really, bad ones that are being dealt with). The Idea is to create a environment where this kind of elitist behavior is not encouraged and will not flourish, but instead learn and develop your skills in the use of wire.
This is up to you, the 27,390 members of wiremod.com and the countless others that simply lurk, to change this. Failure will result into wiremod decaying into a stinking cesspit like facepunch. What say you? Fight for me and I will... never mind.

"You can only tie the record for flying low."
Oh god no, not facepunch... this is the last semi-safe place in the internet. I'll join the group of GoodWin Internet Crusaders if it means staying away from anything like facepunch.
I agree that people who care so much about their code being stolen are tards! But get real, the internet isn't that bad, what's wrong with it?
I am in agreement with the pretty much the whole post, except, if people want to show off what they have made because they are proud of it*, then fine, that's great for them**. But, if people want to show off because they have something that others don't and they want to show off to be called 'Mr. Awesome' then that's not right and we, as a community (Garrysmod & Wiremod), should discourage it completely.
Imo, players of garrysmod need to act mature, as it is rated 'Mature', and deal with things as they will need to in the ,not so far, future. (Working life and GCSEs etc.)
*If they are proud of it then they have perfect reason to not release the code or complain about stealing-This does not mean that you can bitch to admins/moderators and such, Garrysmod.org has a flag system and releasing yours to say its your idea, well, isn't that what you didn't want to do? Release it?
** Can also be great for others to get ideas and make it themselves, which is a great part of the community to say:
Hey look what i made from the great ideas you gave me! Thanks so much for the inspiration.
Of course, theres the other way, which is claiming your version/modification is better than his, which we need to also discourage.
The internet is that bad.
Here you could ask a question and get serious answers. Try doing something like that on /b/. You'll see the kind of people we don't want to attract here.
I couldn't agree more Jat!
It was about time someone finally stepped up, and talked about this.
The internet is very, very bad.
EDIT: Ninja'd -.-
Wow, that actually needed a post? What's amazing is that this needs to be said... what's more amazing is that there are people who're replying as though this is some sort of call to action....
The purpose of this thread is to stop fools from making foolish posts, if you're posting in agreement it probably means you're not doing it, so, read it, understand it, be happy you have a lick of common sense and be sad for those who don't. Closed.
Turck3 made a good point with his post, so the thread is going to stay locked.
Allowing this thread to remain open and turn into an actual crusade is contradictory to Jat's clever mixture of humor and seriousness in his post. The point of his post is to put an emphasis on being humble.
