    Default Whatever happened to RFID?

I recently downloaded the unoficial wire addons svn and found the RFID things INCREDIBLY useful to a security system i was making but i was wondering whatever happened to it? i searched forums and found the origional thread and it seems the creator hasn't replied in a while does anyone know if this is still being worked on because it is a really cool addon and i was hoping to see more.

Though it's been a long while since I've had time to even think about Wiremod, (I'm slowly getting back into it so that I can get back to designing crazy weapon systems.) an RFID system sounds REALLY useful in a variety of situations. If it works like I assume (Distance-dependent radio, essentially?) then it could have a whole host of applications--From the obvious security cards to cooler stuff that involves blowing stuff up. Or rather... Not blowing yourself up.

Sorry to go a bit off topic, but I'm just thinking out loud here: What if you rigged up an RFID chip to missiles launched from a platform/ship or something out in space, and programmed them to refuse to explode within a certain distance of the platform/ship/each other? You could avoid wrecking your own creation that way, and save yourself the trouble of having to redupe missiles all the time...

Yeah, sorry for the off topic. RFID sounds really cool.

Unfortunately, RFID is easily hackable. Just wait for a reader to have a value, copy them down and implant stuff. Boom, hacked scanner.

Put the reader on the other side of the wall, or in a box :P

Isn't that essentially how it's done in real life? Get a swipe at that card and hand it back to it's owner, or something like that. I hear some underhanded store clerks use their own readers and swipe the card when your not looking. Then they use your ID to buy stuff.

SteamID through the ranger would be a little more secure... wouldn't it?

The only way to falsify data is if it was accidentally looking for a range that was insane, or a color that doesn't exist But a pure Ranger that uses SteamID would be extremely hard to get though...

problem with that idea is steam ids cant be put into constant values or outputted by screens for some reason wire decides to be an ass and messes up the last digit of steam ids only thing that can handle them is ram and expression

Personally, I like unsecure things. What's the fun of making a fortress which is impossible to break into? With RFID, you could easily make challenges to TRY and break in. I find that if I do make un-hackable systems then people who I would let in anyway, I let in, and everyone else just removes the door...

well you try to make it unhackable but it will always be hackable, what the creator of rfid said he was going to do is make it so that you have a lockcode on your implanter and if someone knows the lockcode then they can use your scanner, iwould prefere that system as it isn't 100% unhackable. and also about removing the door then you make a system to stop them doing that. it's all about one upping lol. Security system doesn;t let people in people find a way in security system counters that flaw people find a new one ect
