I've got a bit of an issue with the highlighted statement, let me try and explain.

The laws are funny, and a bit screwed up. Generally, so long as there are no restrictions on distribution, and you've accredited the original author as the copyright holder, you can distribute the work however you wish (without notice).

If there is ever any doubt about the license status of a work, ask the author first. Otherwise you may find yourself receiving a DMCA takedown notice, or a lawsuit at the worst.

Granted those are the extreme cases, but it's good to think about it : )

Keep in mind these are all in my words (as laymen as i can get them)

A work is copyrighted the moment it is created, regardless of whether it's marked or not. The very act of creation grants the copyright (According to US/EU law). The author may (at their discretion) disclaim all rights (save copyright) by stating (in writing) that the work is 'Placed into the Public Domain'.



-Terms-

Copyright: The ownership of a work. Copyright grants the original author (or parent entity) the rights to place restrictions on the use and distribution of a work.

Distribution: The act of transferring a work from one entity to another (by any means)


-Licenses-

Freeware: A Copyright work, with "Few-to-None(tm)" restrictions on use and distribution. You may not claim ownership. You may not use it in a derived work (without license). You may freely distribute it.

Public Domain: A work released into the wild, without restrictions on ownership, distribution, or derivation. You cannot claim a public domain work as your own, but you can incorporate, extend, or reuse it in your own works, without attribution. (Under US law (this may have changed in the last few years), even a public domain work is still copyright to the original author (or maintainer), for purposes of law enforcement and import/export regulation)

GPL: A Freeware-esque license where the Author maintains Copyright, but disclaims all rights to derivation and incorporation. SEE: GPL License

Most addons for GMod are licensed as freeware, a few are GPL, and only a small fraction are public domain.

What I said was a tad out of context. I was referring to a distribution sense.

Yes, I know those goofy laws. It is also why I am TRYING to give credit to all people where it's due. However, as said (in distribution point of view) since he was public distributing his addon without a license, it for the most part, means that there are no restraints on it.

Anyways, I still need a link. I would like to talk to the gentleman to find out if we can continue distribution, or I will honor his request to delete it.

Wire Radio Systems was not ready for inclusion at that stage. By including it, andy has GPL'd my code before I was ready to do so.

I'll let him off this time though, as I was going to GPL3 it anyway. But people, PLEASE be careful and always ASK first. I repeatedly asked NOT for any svn inclusion up front.

I updated the Wire Extras SVN to include my newly coded "Wire Demolition Cord" stool. License is GPL3.

sorry about bump(?) but I'm having errors when using this with the official Wiremod SVN, Im I supposed to do that? Anyways, it's one of those pretty generic 'crash when map is loaded' errors that happens when you put a addon without a .info file in the addons pack.

Is this a genuine error (then it should be fixed) or have I installed something wrong, this is how I've installed them:

garrysmod/garrysmod/addons/wire
garrysmod/garrysmod/addons/unnoficial wire svn
garrysmod/garrysmod/addons/wire model pack 1
garrysmod/garrymod/addons/ADV Duplicator

Is that right?
If so, is anyone else experincing this error?

Whenever you experience errors like this, please do a fresh install first, then plop only WM and UWSVN in; to ensure it's not a conflict with an addon in this pack.
