Firewalls tend to suck and occasionally are more trouble than they're worth. Use the one that comes with your router unless you've got CIA crap on there or something. And don't go on pr0n or warez.

Doesn't matter if your firewall is off. I used to run outpost firewall until I realized the way it hooks kept cygwin from running, regardless if I turned it off.

oh, well I use windows firewall, I think it comes with windows xp. do you suggest I uninstall it then?

that's not what he said. unless you use outpost firewall and cygwin svn (both VERY unlikely) you should be fine with your firewall on. never turn that thing off unless you have a really good reason.

you should rather tell us precisely what you did and what did not work and how it did not work.

in response to tomylobo, I have looked at multiple svn tutorials, and done what they said to do without success. every time i try svn i get the error posted on last page. I have tried to turn off my firewall, and that did not work. i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling svn several times, all without success. right now i am at a loss of what to do.
