    thanks.
It's only the transmitter that needs power (i.e. linking to an energy storage cell), you will get that error message if you try linking to a receiver.

@Phil: Saying this though, I have seen some transmitters not accept energy or have any Wire inputs at all. The ones that seem to work best here are the omni ones.

Radio Systems 1.0.0b Release 4 Download!

[ Fix ] Orphaned receiver channels should revert to static
[ Fix ] Players should only be damaged when transmitter is transmitting
[ Fix ] "On" transmitter wire input now works properly
[ Fix ] Channel1 should transmit data rather than its own frequency when setting transmitter BaseMHz

I think I found a bug, I downloaded the latest version and something odd came up.

    The setup:

    Large Omni Antenna
    Base Freq: 50
    Channel: 1
Tx Watts: 1000 (A firkin Kilowatt  )

Paired with a Small Omni with the same base freq and channel.

What I found that it had an extremely limited range (VERY limited range), even with the receiving antenna right up against the transmitter I got maybe -40 at best. I then walked away for about second and what couldn't be more than about 50 feet away I lost the signal ( < -90 ).

I tested that on Freespace and on Wire Construct (large maps) and the range just wasn't there... The previous version actually worked pretty well (as far as the range goes for 1 kilowatt).

Another odd bug was that in order to get any signal at any distance whatsoever, I had to rotate the small omni, only when it got into a "Wedge" of a signal did it even pick up anything and when it did it was very low ( < -80 ) at close range (I mean close...)

I tried the drum antennas and the range problem still existed (perhaps its a sensitivity problem?). Are you still using the size of the map to determine a relative "range" for transmit and recieve numbers?

Of course when in range channel 1 did work with data, so that part works ^_^

    Edit:
    I didn't mess with these:

    sv_rs_maxtxpower
    sv_rs_rxsensitivitythreshold

Maybe the Default values are too low?

Don't know how you feel about adding extra features, but I was thinking the addition of something like a "secure channel" (as was done in another radio STool somewhere on here) and perhaps the concept of "interference"/jamming could be pretty kewl.

Maybe also you could add some sound effects, for example; for static and tuning?

PS does this work under water? Should it? Too tired to test right now - 5:32AM. %(

Edit: I think this may have been the other radio I mentioned: http://www.wiremod.com/forum/wiremod...way-radio.html

The whole point of the system was to provide a radio that could be interfered with and listened in on. Hence realism.

If you need to encrypt your data there are about a half a million ways to do it, from channel hopping to parity to multiplexing and even letter shifting.

Other than that the best way to secure your signal is to just pick an odd and obscure base frequency, you can pick almost any frequency and the likelihood that you'd be found in it would be very small (1 in X number of frequencies available...)

As -=Fox=- said, you can just choose an obscure base frequency and scramble the data being transmitted (e.g. add 13 and divide the result by half the base frequency) and unscramble at the receiver, but the jammer would be a pretty awesome feature if it wouldn't be so easy to minge around with. :|

With regards to the obscure frequency; what's to stop people from making auto-tuners? I just did this successfully myself.

If you really don't want to have anybody find out the data you are transmitting, just encrypt it with some obscure method and decrypt it at the other end.

This is great, I like it myself being a radio enthusiast (sorta). Now, is it possible with DRmod to create a sort of basic trunked radio system? I'm not so sure, but would it be easier to use multiple antennas with different base freqs. ,or just utilize all the channels on one or two antennas?

And on the topic of scrambling/encoding, as said by Fox, the simplest way to scramble/encrypt/encode a transmission is to divide/add, etc the number, transmit it, and reverse the operation on the other end.
