Try a directory path like:
MyGates/testgate
You do not need to specify "/data/" and "/expressiongate/" directories. At default, the root directory is already in the "/expressiongate/" directory.
You also don't need to specify the extension. (.txt)
Hello all! I'm fairly new and I have been having a problem with the expression gate tool. I know the basics of using to make simple expressions. The only problem is, i cant save them. After I finish writing one in game if I go to click save, it says "Could Not Save" and if i open the console it says Error! Couldn't write file 'data\/ExpressionGate/.txt' ...Would anyone know how to remedy this? I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and i have made sure that all the permissions and ownership crap in Vista is set right on my data/ExpressionGate folder. I'm using Wire Mod v633 that i downloaded from garrysmod.org. I opened a preset expression that came with Wire Mod, clicked Save, and it let me save the preset one just fine. I can't save my own is the problem...
If you know what is wrong, or you simply need more info about the problem please let me know as I am eager to get this fixed.
THANKS!

hmm ok i've done exactly as you instructed, but i still am not able to save the expression. Though one thing i did notice this time is that in the console error message
Error! Couldn't write file 'data\/ExpressionGate/.txt'
One of the backslahes is backwards, and are there supposed to be two of them there? I thought it was just data/expressiongate/ ?
Thanks for the reply though
you need to fill in the text box right at the top above the save button.
Well, i have a similar problem, when i try to load up my expressions in order to edit them(i type in the name and click load expression) it says could not find "" instead of the normal: "name" successfully loaded.
When i make some expression via the "browse expressions" menu, and then open up the editor and right click, i am unable to save any changes i have made, and get the weird \/ error where 1 slash is reversed.
Yes, i do have stuff entered in the text/name field, but it gets erased as soon as i press save(when i press save text goes away and gives me the \/ error) or load(when i press load, text in name field is erased and it says could not find ""). I also checked, i do have an expressiongate folder, and my wire is at rev 649.
So i think the problem is a bit more complex than just trying to save a nameless file, but IDK, thats why i'm asking.
Any solutions?

Ok yeah i've got the exact same problem as Blight...I've done everything you guys have recommended so far, sadly to no avail. I was typing in a name before in the box, but like Blight it would just erase that name box before it tried to save it...As soon as i hit 'Save' the name box goes blank and i get the 'Could Not Save' thing. I still dont know if the wierd V thing with the slash backwards has anything to do with it, and i've tried just about everything. The wierd thing is, that if I open a expression that comes with wiremod like preset, i am still able to save that one no problem, even if i make changes to it...I just cant save ones that I make in-game. Now i would very much like to get this solved, but if it comes down to it, does it anyone have a link on like how to just make them in notepad?
Ok i bump because i didnt want to start another topic so here's the error message.
Error! Couldn't write file 'data\/ExpressionGate/.txt'
So...?
i found a out whats wrong. sence the update whenever you finish a line in exp and hit validate it will erase what you wrote/fix to that line. same deal to the save, to save just fill in the save filename then click on another box like input or something any box will do then hit save and will save
