A/B to C
I'm guessing it measures from B to C.
But, it doesn't really matter because the distance between A to B is so small anyway... and why not just try it out yourself?
The wired ranger - does it measure from the point where the beam starts (ie the top of the ranger) or from the centre of the ranger itself? Similarly, does it measure to the centre of the object it hits, or to the point where the beam hits the object?
In other words, which two points does the ranger measure from?
A-C?
A-D?
B-C?
B-D?

The ranger measures from its begining to the point it hits. but i dont know about the begining.

But be wary of "C"
I'm 99.99% sure C refers to the hitbox, rather than the polygons you see.
Example: Measuring features on an NPC/player will not output what it looks like to you. It will be the hitbox instead.
To be correct it is probably the "collision/physics model", meaning that the ranger works just like a bullet, it traces the curvature of objects, but it might not be exactly what you see. And in the case of players, they are a special case I believe because you shouldn't trace the model (remember light bulbs with legs running around in Q3? would be pretty boring if someone decided to be a small dot) but instead they trace the box... why you get a box I really don't know because I would assume that you got some generic fat guy since it feels weird that you could hit him to the right of his torso etc. Unless bullets would use some special traceline function that handles player models differently, sounds odd, but could be.B to C.

So for 99% of all models you should be getting something fairly similar to what you see (e.g. but possibly no bumps on the container etc).
If it hasn't changed since it was made then it's from A - C with C being the hitbox as mentioned before. The players being boxes thing is a throwback to Quake where half-life began its existence. The weird thing is bullets done use that hit box they use a series of orientable hitboxes attached to each limb etc so there must be some way to make the ranger do that too.
If in doubt, stick your finger in it.
I think it has been changed because I measured the distance of a stack and it was from the B point of the ranger rather than the back/inside of it that it was exactly the same as the stacker value.
Also, I'm almost certain it DOES trace hitboxes, I tested it with my 3d holo scanner.
it is definetly from b, because if you make a ranger with a distacce of 15 and and wired colorer with a dist. of 15, they end at the same point when parellel. also, jsut make one that is like distance 5 and you might not even see it at all.
