    Default Sound Recording

    Hi, I was just wondering if it's possible to download something so that I can record sound from the outputs of the sound thing's(ports or whatever). I know that there's two things that would most likely work;

    What U Hear(Option for recording input)
    Stereo Mixer(Option for recording input)

    According to Google searches, I should have at least one of these to choose from in the (Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio) window, but I don't.

    I have a Realtek sound card but I can't record any sound so please help! Thanks!

    I use Microsoft Plus! Analog Recorder.
    It's not free but it works.

    Also, if you're on vista you can see all the audio channels by right clicking on the speaker icon, going to 'Recording Devices' then right clicking anywhere in the device list and choosing 'Show Disabled Devices'
    Sometimes if you enable one it will work for ya. Depends on the card and system settings.

    I'm using XP and I'm not going to spend money on something that's minor. Is there any way to download Stereo Mixer or What U Hear so I can have the extra boxes?

    Type "sndrec32" in "run" and you'll get a very basic sound recording application, _basic_, but works for some things.

    Otherwise there are lots of open source stuff that is actually rather good.
    Can't remember the names, but a quick google should find what you are looking for.

    FRAPS ^_^

    Just use Windows Movie Maker to remove the video, and there you go.

    I know how to record video and audio(I use FRAPS), but I'm asking if there's any way to download something so that I can actually get the sound. Right now FRAPS(and every other program I use) doesn't record sound. No, I'm not retarded. I DO have the "Record Sound" box checked, but its the thing next to it that says "Line In" or "Front Mic" ect. that is the problem. I need the option of recording sound directly from the output.

    Some sound cards outright have no support for stereo mix recording.
    Are you sure yours supports it?

    Next best solution is to get a cable and manually hook up the audio out into the microphone, I have a cable to do it so they do exist.
