You just need to make sure you are deleting image composition information, not file structure information. Though I doubt there is much chance of working that out in notepad. Try deleting from the middle? Logic says that's where the fun stuff is.
Common sense no longer applies.
I fucked around deleting some of the first parts of the composition information then adding in random characters back in then I pasted bits of a lolcat in random places for good measure.
