Reason to rent a server

Right, so i'm semi convinced to save money to rent a gmod server but i'm the sort that won't do something without a reason, so give me a reason! Cookies available

There are many reasons to rent a sever
1 is that if you want a sever u do not need to keep your comp running 24 / 7
2 If you need help with any thing most likely your sever renter person will help you out
3 you will get allot more people joining
4 it lets you get a good clan going!

Most renters also give u a free website, so its common to see clans build up from there.

i have 2 questions for servers too( dont mind if i interrupt)
1. Do u actually need gmod on your hosting computer?
i remember some source games didnt require you to actually own the game
2. Dont you need to upgrade your internet along with the ports?
at least for true multiplayer gmod

You don't need any games to host a dedi for that game. You do need to forward ports but thats a painless process. I set up my own server running 3 dedi servers and a webserver. (With no lag, I know right?)

1. No. You would download some files for gmod but they wouldn't require you to own it and wouldn't start it normally.
2. No. As long as you have a moderate connection already, it should be fine. No computer parts matter (in 95% of all cases), only the internet connection matters in terms of speed.

Here's the thing, host if off a spare computer, OR if you have a decent computer, off the same one you play on! If you get a good fan base, and people depending on it up 24/7, then rent. Other than that, no real reason to rent one.

2. you can add your own stuff and mods
3. its FUN
4. if your a wire dev, making stuff for wiremod becomes easier.


NO server that I know of has as many E2 expansions as mine.

You can host DarkRP servers and troll everyone who's online.
I mean, you may aswell, like said, host it off a different computer, but if your internet isn't great, it will probably lag when more than a few people join.
