    Default Hard drive dilema

I got a new 1TB hard drive at a nice price online, and when I got it installed, windows XP says it's a floppy drive, but I haven't even formatted it or anything yet. Odd.
Around 15 minutes after messing around in my BIOS to try to get my PC to boot from a Ubuntu DVD I had so I could format the HDD as NTFS, one of my old hard drives decided to die. It was on it's way out anyway, but I'm not exactly happy.. Although I've managed to salvage what I can, I can't format my new HDD properly and my C drive has around 519mb of space left. Any ideas on what I can do? I tried a nifty little program called "partition logic" to try and format, but it didn't boot. I can't remember what the error was exactly but it said it failed to load a certain file from the disc.

    Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H
New HDD: Hitachi DeskStar 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM - Ebuyer

Windows says it's SCSI but it's just SATAII..
Any help would be appreciated.. I've tried everything I can think of.

    IIRC SATA uses SCSI technology....

Also, XP doesn't understand SATA, you need to install the drivers for your SATA controller and chipset.

I built my brother's PC and that uses SATA II. I didn't have to install any drivers to use it then..
Come to think of it, I think I had to install some drivers for my SATA DVD burner.. I'll look into it. Thanks

You don't have to buy it. You can download and use it for free, until March 2010.

I don't see the point in Windows 7.
Doesn't it take up more resources like Vista did?

I don't think so. If by resources you mean hard drive space, then yes. I don't think it uses up more RAM to run it though.
It runs faster and is more stable than vista anyway.
