I wouldent recommend long haired breeds, as you need to groom the hair everyday otherwise it goes into knots and you need to cut it off, i have that problem with my Norweghian Forest cat :P

No, you only need to brush the fur of it twice every year or so, and if thier fur get dirty, the dirt will disappear magicly next day. The fur is much easier than you will belive. Trust me

Edit: But then again, a thing which can make everything is a unthinkable thing, I do think I can think of something which your thing can't make.

Officer Tibbles: Get a border collie. They're really good medium sized dogs. Easily trained and very loyal.
Wow? Really? those are the worst dogs ever... Ive already had 2 of those ATTACK ME... One of my friends has one anyways, and all it does is piss everywhere...(that was one that attacked me).
And then He used his fight money to buy two of every animal, And then he herded them on to a boat AND BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF EVERY ONE OF EM' -Red Team Soldier

They have alot of energy, so they get really pissed if you coop them up.

I have a German Shorthair Pointer. They shed, but you don't have to groom them because of the short hair. They're also hunting dogs, so just add gun and you have some yummy bird for dinner. They are slightly expensive for a well bred one though. Mine cost about a thousand dollars if I remember right. They don't get too terribly large, females are often smaller than males.

This was a serious suggestion. They don't shed, they're easy to train, and they're gentle.

    DO NOT:
    GET AN ASIAN DOG
    1. BECAUSE THEY'RE LIKE THE GAY DOG ABOVE ME THAT ONLY TOTAL WHORES GET
    2. THEY'RE PUSSY AND SPOILED
    3. THEY ARE WAY TO SMALL
    GET A BIG/GIGANTIC DOG
    1. THEY DIE FASTER THAN SMALLER DOGS
    2. THEY ARE A TOTAL PAIN TO TRAIN TO GUARD/BE FRIENDLY
    GET A POODLE
    1. ...... comon poodle?!?!?!
    Yes, a poodle
CHANGE YOUR MIND AND GET A CAT
    DO:
get a medium dog, one that is borderline medium to small
    1. they wont die quickly and they are not fruity
    2. they're easier to manhandle so you can train them with harsh but not painful discipline
    3. this type of medium to small dog is always said to be playful and energetic but isnt crack head energetic (this i dont know of personally but i could believe it)

I have a britney spaniel which is a hunting dog and he has been playful and active just like when he was a puppy and he's 12! He is supposed to die soon I'm guessing because britneys usually die in the 14-17 range. But he has truely fitted the mans best friend qualifications and he only took about 3 months to be house trained

edit: if you are going to get a large dog make it a golden retriever, no clue why but everyone of them that I have met is always nice and their owners always say they are the most lovable dogs out there

Get a shelter dog. They are much cheaper and much less likely to have issues credited to over breeding. I have two and their both great. Considering shelter dogs are so much cheaper I don't see why anyone would get a breed. Plus your giving a dog a home that might not get one. Make sure to spay/neuter too!
(They often have that done for free if you get a shelter dog)
