Default steam games crashing my pc

Can someone help, whenever i run gmod or css,
i can play for about 5 minutes, then my pc crashes and the screen goes to a shade of pink/purple.
Then when i reboot i get a bunch of vertical pink lines running down the startup screen.

Im using speedfan, and when im idle my GPU is about 60c+, when playing Gmod it reaches up to 95 then crashes.

My graphics card is Nvidia Geforce 8400 Gs
im not sure what my motherboard is becuz i am n00b with computers.

The thing is, i think it is hardware related because i reformatted several times in the past week and it keeps happening.
But team fortress 2 is persuading me to think otherwise because this had NEVER happened before i played it. I played a 4 hour session once, and then it crashed and kept crashing from there.
    Help me please.

    Hrmm. Sounds like overheating issues.

Are your fans set to auto?

Make sure your computer is in a well ventilated area.

Sounds to me like TF2 fried something.

Also sounds like your computer gets crappy air flow.

Check the heat sink on it to make sure it didn't come off because 60c idling is kinda hot.

imo, your card sounds like it's pooped, but there really isn't a good way to tell. cheep cards and mobos usually also have kinda crappy thermometers so it could be much hotter then that in your case. best thing to do with out spending to much money is to add some fans, best to have somebody that understands computers do it. If you keep having problems then you might need to buy a new card.

    thanks for the quick reply,
for 1, its not very ventilated. ill move it out, because it kinda sits next to my desk on the other side of the door, which would block all air off. My fans are fucked, they worked a while ago but my pc fell over(one of my friends accidently kicked it) and i havent got them fixed yet, they run but not very well.

Im going on the weekend to get it replaced and get my fans fixed.
Btw i wasnt overclocking i think its just that tf2 has fucked my peice of shit $30 graphics card.

Hey, nothing wrong with a 30 dollar card.

I ran TF fine with a 5200 FX xD

I barely got 60 FPS on everything low.

If you still want to play, but don't want this issue. Drop everything to low, set resolution to 600x400. It'll look like utter crap, but you can still play it. :P

Should take away heating issues for now.

is there a way i can reduce some sort of settings to make the graphics card run better or stop it from heating up?
In the past 20 mins my gpu temp has gone from 62 - 67 having it idle, well not 100% idle just doing this.
Ive just started up gmod and its jumped from 70-80
