Well im probably just an idiot but.... I got the new Gmod (finaly) and as everyone knows things are different. What realy bothers me though is the new rangers...WTF!!! they dont work for me why cant i just wire a thruster to a ranger and have the thruster turn on as the ranger is (tripped) WTF!!! i thought that I click the (value) check box or what ever cause I know that value (1) is on and (0) is off. but the only value the new ranger uses IS 0!!!!!! AAHHH this pisses me off so much I miss being able to simply wire a thruster or whatever to a ranger and have it turn on when the rangers laser is tripped......

HOW THE HELL DO I MAKE THE VALUE 1 so it works just like it used to????????..................

thanx!!

Probably, since you can't seem to use the basic rules of the English language correctly.

Apart from that, you have to understand that the new update has changed things that addons like Wire need to work properly. These things take time to fix. There will be errors in Wire for a while until the team has had a chance to fix them.

I understand that the update changes stuff but what I don't get is when I looked at this file

E:\games\steam\SteamApps\darkreaper476\garrysmod\g arrysmod\addons\wire\lua\entities\gmod_wire_ranger \init.lua

with notepad at this line

self.Inputs.SelectValue.Value = 0

value = to 0... "Shoulden't be 1?" I asked myself so I changed it to 1 and it did nothing, so I changed it back.

0=off 1=on for thrusters so....... I might just be doing something wrong in Gmod does the truster wired to a ranger work right for you?

Ok, so if I hear you right, you want it so that when nothing is in the ranger's line, it outputs 0. If something goes in the line, it outputs 1?
Have you been trying the "Default to 0" option?
If so, and that isn't working, uncheck it and do this:
Make a subtract gate, wire B to the ranger. Make a constant value, with the value of however long the ranger is (it'll say in the options for the ranger) and wire B to the value. Now wire the thruster to the subtract gate.
That _should_ work, but it all depends on how long the ranger is, whether or not you want it to be affected by the ground or not, and whether you want it to have a single amount of power (not get more powerful as whatever is in the line gets closer to the ranger).

If you want the thruster to just be on no matter how far away the object is from the ranger, wire a "Not Equal" gate to the subtract gate, and wire the thruster to that.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
And help the newbies when you can, we were all there once too. Well, I was at least.

"with the value of however long the ranger is (it'll say in the options for the ranger) and wire B to the value"

WOW thanks but I'm a little confused, what do you mean by "and wire B to the value" ? whats (the value)?
I understand the rest but... lol.. Plus What should be checked in the ranger settings? (the true reason I got confused in the first place)

I got show beam and hit water of course but the main thing I want checked is the (output value) right?

P.S. I do want the thruster to become more powerful as the line gets closer to the ranger and for it to be affected by the ground.

THANKS again and pictures REALLY help me. So if you can upload a simple picture of this circuit built on the floor or something that would be AWESOME please lol.

I miss old Gmod........

Dunno if it's the same problem but my rangers seem to display 0 range all the time. Their beam simply won't stop at an object, it'll just go through it and not update the range at all. In any case you'll just have to wait for the wiremod team to fix it.

Okay, I'll help you out.
And incidentally, 'hit water' is broken, as well. If it's turned on, it hits nothing...

Okay...so, I'm not going to just give you an adv. dupe or a save, because then what will you have learned? Instead, I'm going to give you a very basic lesson in how the thrusters work, and how the ranger works.
Everything in Wiremod works by numbers. Everything that takes an input, takes numbers. Everything that has an output, outputs numbers. This is true for Thrusters and Rangers. I'll give you a quick explanation of how the Thrusters work:
The input on the thruster adjusts how much force it's putting out. You know the slider on regular GMod thrusters? It's basically just like that. The thrust is equal to the weight x thruster slider x input. Great, so you understand how the thrusters work.

Your problem seems to be that you don't know how the ranger works. Okay, first off, 'Value' isn't what you need...what 'Value' does is tell you what numbers are in a Constant Value chip if you aim the ranger at it. Leave that option unchecked.
So, the way the ranger works, is it tells you how far away whatever it's pointing at is, up to it's maximum range. Now, when something is outside of it's maximum ranger, then here comes in an option people have problems with: 'Default to 0'
Now, if you have 'Default to 0' unchecked, when where the ranger is pointing is farther away than it's maximum range, it will just ouput it's maximum range. If you have 'Default to 0' checked, then when something is farther away than Max. Range, it outputs 0. You want to have this option checked. Now, make sure your Max range is the right distance...if you're mounting this ranger on some kind of wall, waiting for people to pass by it, and there's another wall in front of the ranger that's too close, the ranger will detect the wall and trip your thruster.
Okay, one last thing, because it's bugged, make sure 'hit water' is unchecked. It doesn't work for now, instead, it just makes the ranger not detect anything.

Now that you understand how they both work, I'm sure you know what options to check, to make your contraption work the same as it did before.
