Using mdmp files - Valve Developer Community
So lately, while playing GMod, and not during strenuous (to the computer) particle or physics activity, my computer has been crashing suddenly and with no warning. Since they've started occurring, I've noticed two crash patterns:
1) Is a screen freeze of GMod. The current GMod screen stays, but if you press the flag, ctrl+alt+del, and alt+tab combos, I hear sounds assigned to popups and my start bar (windows XP, by the way), and if I have the default Task Manager's tab at "processes", I can end it and cure the problem.
2) However seems more malevolent. I'll be rotating an object, or choosing a weapon from the Q-menu, or doing some other, usually trivial, task, probably something linked to a sound. I'll hear a static pop coming from the speakers, the keyboard lights turn off, and the screen freezes indefinitely, unless of course I restart the computer.
Now, "What could this have to do with .mdmp files?" you might ask. Well I looked into my GMod folder, and lo and behold, I saw 9 files with the word "crash" in the title;
hl2_3943_crash_2010_1_15T23_7_7C0.mdmp
for example, and I'd like to know how to open these or make them otherwise legible so that I may better understand what is turning this usually functional, beautiful machine into my most baleful enemy.
In summary, how do you open a file with the extension ".mdmp", or otherwise comprehend its contents?
Got Nil?
At the moment, there appears to be a black hole ripping at my thoughts, tearing them from my grasp. It's purple. And square. Oh alternate dimensions...
