That'd be silly as an E2 function, but I agree that this would be a useful component..
Simple one: a weld latch that takes 2 entity inputs, a weld and a un-weld input
One example, you got some kind of arm/crane and need to pick up something, lets say this aren't predifined props with a linked weld latch and it is to hard to get a grabber aimed right, just target it and input it into the controller, done ^_^.
And maybe get it as an E2 function as well... weld(E,E), unweld(E,E) and maybe unweld(E) if it can be properly secured.
Only problem I see is abusing, some minge with wire skills could make an expression that unwelds an entire contraption, welds players to each other :/.
