Thread: Bringing the Target Finder / Beacon Sensor into the 21st century

Look at attached image....is this reasonable? No. This is the way to resolve it:

    1) Choice of target finder and beacon sensor models, perhaps using the approach Tomb used in the satellite dish.

    2) Possible merger of target finder and beacon sensor (personally, I don't like this, just putting it out there).

    3) Giving the target finder some more options, some are totally obvious and probably not too difficult to implement, for example: wheels, motors, and explosions (for detecting detonation-engine driven vehicles).

Then there are some others that might also be worth considering for detection, such as: hydraulic, fin, things with weights above a certain amount, moving prop detection and then of course there's detection of Heat / IR which I've mentioned before.

The reason why you have separate Beacon sensors ar that you can use one targetfinder to locate 10 different targets and the have 10 beacon sensors to locate them all.

Also the beacon sensor is useful because it link to other things than targetfinders: Laser pointer reciever, waypoints, locators etc.

But i agree there should bee a wheight filter on props, and a target wheels, explosives etc.

Oh, definitely give us the ability to change the beacon / target models... the hula dancer is just silly (and is hard to adjust) and the electrical meter is just to darn big. Even if we have to type in the path/filename of the model to use instead of the default, the option would be a godsend.

How about a dish model with a FOV option?
So instead of constantly finding all targets, no matter wherever it's facing, it'll only find targets within, say, 45 degrees of where it's facing. Since it's a dish model, it wouldn't be hard to know which direction it's facing.

And also, I had tried to get this working once, where it would be a spinning dish, an it would only update the beacon sensor's values if it was facing the target. So my AA site would still know the general location of the target, and get updates when the satellite was facing it. It worked pretty well, but at about 40 FPS because of all the chips I used.
Sorry if it sounds confusing, but I can't think properly right now.

    Good ideas.

    Electrical meter?

Do you mean the relay box (the big blue thing) or the socket? *confused*

The target finder. the big box with the cylinder sticking out? Those things are on the sides of most homes, they monitor your power usage so your electrical company can bill you.

Some things I forgot to mention:

    4) One of those "Presets" dropdown boxes for the target finder so we can create our own collection of target finders for specific circumstances - we have them for things like the Laser pointer receiver so why not something that needs it like the TF and the advanced input?

    5) A way to change what the TF targets via inputs, so for instance, you may want to switch from targeting vehicles to targeting thrusters. Currently you'd need to respawn the TF for this....

    what kind of presets?
for the laser reciever the only preset is default which changes nothing.

Just the ability to set presets on those things yourself would be good. Have edited that post to make a bit more sense.
