I have seen wire magnets offered up, but thats not really what I am looking for.

What I am looking for is more like a breakable weld, but on a command. The item in question would weld itself to another prop, when given a value, but then un-weld itself when the value was removed. It could pick up items, it could hold items together and it would be very useful in many aspects.

Just because you came up with a good name for it, I'll have to do this now. Might be a few days till I can start on it though.

The numpad controlled grav gun is pretty good, but a wire version...

I do think it would be cool, but I seriously need a "grabber", it needs to be able to lock on and hold the item in relation with another prop.

    Think robotic assembly line.

I've already tried this just using physics and gravity, but this would be much more simple and helpful.

My biggest problem is I can pick up items, but then they dropped and they fall a lout of alignment or when I try and use a jig to position them it pushes to far and rockets off or isn't close enough. If I can pin-point where the grab is, I can place it back down exactly where I picked it up from without any error.

What about temporary parenting the "grabber" with the object, then moving it, and then un-parenting it?

And also make it respond to a value.

That way, if object X is parented to object Y, they will move as one, allowing some other object or physic constraint to move object X, and therefore object Y.

    Just my idea.

    That us what I posted?

    Weld/Parent = 1 Unweld/unparent = 0

    Wire "Grabber"

Some other values could be the distance it is needed for the grabber to be able to hold the device. Possibly a "freeze" option somewhere?

Even such, I just want the basics for now and work for something more impressive later.

It would be interesting if there was a way to change the distance, once the object has been grabbed, by using a hydraulic constraint, rather than a weld. Then again, spaz-city...
