I'm sure I could make one that uses an array input... It shouldn't be that hard if I just base it off of the one that's already there.
I cannot be bothered rewriting a full explanation, so I am just copying part of a post I did on facepunch, about Lyinginbedmon's mech.
And it needs full compatibility with stuff, so you could use things like target finders, findinSphere(), rangers, entity markers etc to choose what gets welded to what.The wiremod devs have really got to make the weld latch have more control, like being able to change what gets welded on-the-fly, using E2 or rangers, etc, so that you could make factorys with it and mean that you could use 1 weld latch for several things, so your mech wouldn't need 2 for each foot, and just a controllable so you can choose what foot gets welded (and to what). I might just make a thread for this on the wiremod forums.

Near as my building experience shows, it'd probably be best if it just welded to the heaviest (highest mass) prop, and unwelded so-constrained props that are removed from the input array so you don't accidentally end up perma-welding stuff.

Though welding to the heaviest isn't always the best. You should be able to choose what gets welded/no-collided to what, so that it could work more complex. Not sure how it would work well though.
