I recently (last week) got GMod, and took the advice of a friend to download some of the bigger mods before joining a server. So i downloaded a bunch of interesting mods and stuck 'em in the addons folder. None of them worked, so i looked into the mod files and noticed that they seemed designed to be manually shoved into garrysmod folders by the user, so i set about distributing the mod files for all the files in my addons folder, foolishly including wiremod. This solved my problems with the mods, but for wiremod, which seemed to be glitchy and missing files. My brother told me that wiremod wasn't meant to be distributed and was designed to work from the addons folder, so i downloaded the SVN version (i had an old release anyways) but, predictably, the distributed version took precedence and the wiremod in my addons folder was ignored. I assumed that the non-addon folders are loaded first in GMod and thus the distributed wiremod was the one i ended up with every time i loaded, so i painstakingly set about removing every single distributed wiremod file (took about an hour
). When i was finished, wiremod refused to load at all. I have no wire tab. It is as though my wiremod in my addons folder is completely ignored, just as my other mods were whe they were in the addons folder, except that i think i remember that although my other mods didnt work, wiremod did before i distributed it. The last thing i can think of to do is distribute wiremod from my addons folder AGAIN. however, i know little to no-thing about SVN, and i dont believe that if i distribute wiremod it will be able to update anymore. Is it possible to distribute wiremod and have it update/work properly? Sorry for the long post.Last edited by Jeziah; 07-12-2008 at 12:33 PM. Reason: Typo |

Ok.. what you have to do to install addons is to create a folder in your addons folder, you can call it whatever you want, then if you are using svn (I recommend using a program called tortoisesvn) you have to right click the folder and then choose svn checkout. In the window you write the url and things like that. When you press ok then it will start downloading your addon.
![]() For addons not in svn (downloaded from garrysmod or so) just extract them in your addons folder. You should have folders with your addons inside your addons folder. I think thats your problem. |

They SHOULD work. There's no reason for them not to be.
Maybe you have too many of them, and they are conflicting with each other? One way to check if an addon is supposed to go in the addons folder is if the original .zip or .rar file you downloaded has a "info.txt" somewhere in it.

It should be more less like this: ->C:\Archivos de programa\Steam\steamapps\<yourname>\garrysmod\garr ysmod -------> \addons\<addon1>\ --------------->info.txt --------------->Other addon folders and files -------> \addons\<addon2>\ ---------------->info.txt ---------------->Other addon folders and files ... And by the way what do you mean by distribute? Did you copy the subfolders that where inside your addons (Lua, cfg, settings,...) into your garrysmod folder??? If you did that thats not what you had to and there is your problem ![]() |

Yes, they had the info.txt files. no, there werent enough to cause confliction. yes, that's what the files looked like. yes, thats what i mean by distribute. and it worked for all the mods, just like it should. :P, do u think i should redownload GMod? it seems to b glitched

Sometimes Gmod starts acting strange for no apparent reason, best thing to do is start anew (delete your gmod folder (after backing up the addons and other files you might want to keep) and start it from steam to recreate a fresh installment of gmod to get you going).

hey, thanks, i was just considering doing that and now i will try it for sure. sadly, it will only help diagnose the problem, not solve it
(i'm not giving up on my mod files, i deleted all the backups of the .RARs and i dont want to go through downloading them all again)ah well, step by step ![]() Last edited by Jeziah; 07-14-2008 at 03:10 PM. Reason: eww, what a weird ":P" face |

hmm, wiremod failed in the fresh garrysmod/garrysmod too, even after a fresh download, it must be something wrong with the other game files, or the source sdk.
EDIT: reloading garry's mod completely solved nothing. it's either a compatibility issue or source sdk. What i need to do now is find out if i can distribute the wiremod files and still update them, is it possible? Last edited by Jeziah; 07-14-2008 at 03:53 PM. Reason: New info |
