Okay the tutorial on tricky/qjet's automated turret is up!
It's just as in-depth as usual, so sorry but it's 25 minutes long O.O
Scroll through parts you don't need by going to the website link under the embedded flash on my post.
Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Heh, it's a coincidence you said that, because I just made a tutorial explaining tricky's tut on qjet's automated turret. It's compiling now, should be online in a little while.

Quick tip, you can snap the beacon sensor to the world by first making it an axis, then rotating it with your phys gun, then undo the axis, and weld... Gives you pretty good alignment. This way you're also not restricted to one view of the rotation.
The best way to weld to get the absolute best accuracy is by just rotating it with the physgun in the air with Shift-E, then when you have it in place like that, weld it, NOT easy weld. THen unfreeze it and you're good to go. Using easy weld will give inaccurate results.
For the pedantics among us, Shift-E has a margin of error of a few billionths, and Conna's Rotator STOOL is available for more exotic angles than multiples of 45.The best way to weld to get the absolute best accuracy is by just rotating it with the physgun in the air with Shift-E, then when you have it in place like that, weld it, NOT easy weld. Thanks for the explanation of the turret. I built the turret and actually did abs(bearing) < 3 to trigger turret fire. There are lots of ways to do things in wiremod!
I was using vehicle control "A.I." by using the two sensors on either side like the "Killer bathtub" from the wiki on wired vehicles, but I may try to make my next one use bearing instead.
wow, great tut., must say i prefer these to tricky's, they actually let me grasp the concept of how it works (try anyway), works great with the lasers, best thing iv found so far is for Space build wars, use the Launcher stool with heat seeking rockets, and attach it to a ship, HELLO AUTO ROCKETS!!!!
one question though, what happens if theres more than one target in range? does it go to each one first?, as i can imagine it would keep trying to get to the closer one, thus confusing it, anyone have a better idea?, or the right answer for that matter.
also, a request, could you make a tut on how to make say a vehicle that can follow you/a locater or whatever?, as i saw this great ship a guy made on space build (i love that game mode) which was using hover balls and thrusters and it followed a locater around, the wiring looked rather complicated, but i would like to understand how it works, and make one as well, as it did help to always have your ship near you, making sure your life support is always in range.
thanks again for the awesome tut.s, great work
It works exactly like the automated turret. You can do the same thing, only wire a thruster in the back connected to the target finder, and hoverballs on the top four corners connected to an "IF (A) then (B ) ELSE ( C)" (under Selection gate). Where A is Elevation <0 (use a less than gate), B is -1, and C is 1 (use a Constant value chip). Then wire the hoverball's Z value to the IF then ELSE gate. That would tell it "Go up, unless your target is at an elevation lower than you. In that case, go down".wow, great tut., must say i prefer these to tricky's, they actually let me grasp the concept of how it works (try anyway), works great with the lasers, best thing iv found so far is for Space build wars, use the Launcher stool with heat seeking rockets, and attach it to a ship, HELLO AUTO ROCKETS!!!!

( technically you would have the beacon split XYZ and use Z<0)
You can of course make it more complicated that that, have a switch that turns the thing off and on, or have it maintain a certain distance from the target, or whatever. The foundations for that are from the Automated door tutorial and the Automated turret tutorial. That is how I learned to do it and now I have all sorts of homing robots and ships that can even set off self-destruct sequences when they get in range (Timebomb tutorial).
If you watch all the tutorials and start linking the ideas together you can make a lot of different things right now. I can't wait until -orb- gets to the point where he explains how those holographic emitters work, or what the different screens and oscilloscopes can be used for in a contraption.![]()
New tutorial up on holograms ()
I made an account here to say this. And I mean it! I am bloody serious!
THANK YOU! I LOVE YOU THE STRAIGHTEST WAY POSSIBLE!![]()

This is my third day wire! And I already know the basics!
just a question:
How do you fly? :V nah just joking. I was a very Wire noob first, but Now I am less lua noob because of YOU!![]()
