Actually, assembly is the fastest of all languages, but yes, its pretty slow to code and quite picky. It's fun to learn though because you get a feeling of how stuff is done on a much lower-level. High-level languages have a degree of abstraction that hides what is actually going on behind the scenes.

Uh, assembly can be way faster than C if coded right. When writing large amounts of code, higher level languages such as C are faster and more efficient due simply to the inefficiency of writing each instruction. But for small programs writing in straight assembly has the ability to be much faster than any compiled language.

I don't think he was talking about programs written in ASM being slow.. but the fact that it takes absolutely forever to write anything worthwhile in the language. Which is true, and also why I don't waste my time with the CPU/GPU anymore.

Drives me nuts when people say language A is faster than language B. That's really only a valid comparison when the languages are interpreted. /rant
Eh, your kind of right. You have to remember the way some languages compile and the way some languages are written can be slower or faster. Another thing to take into account is the language itself. Where in C++ you have to pretty much include everything you want and resource management rests almost entirely on the code, where as things like C# include a lot of internal code like that of .net and garbage collection is handled internally. ASM is undoubtedly slow to write, I think he was talking about the speed at which it executes, but I guess he will have to answer that. xD

Yes, but we are talking about a game here. Some people find joy in making easy things, with functions for pretty much everything and abstraction blocking the lower-level operations of the language. Others are fascinated by using primitive opcodes to build something complex and unique; regardless of productivity.

GPU has built in render codes yes. I have spent the last 3 weaks researching 3d projection rendering.
To anybody who has asked me why i haven't just gone and stolen GPU's 3d render codes its because they are not just complex but all belong to BP and i have a strickly no stealing rule when it comes to coding. STOP ASKING ME!
This coming from the guy who took one look at my initial piece-of-garbage 3d test code and decided it was a good idea to slap it into the EGP LUA as-is, and it took me more than a week to convince you that you were an idiot.

    Anyways:

I made part of garrysmod in garrysmod with EGP.

Specifically, I replicated the singleplayer loading screen, complete with spawn lag and choppy sound-spam.
Then it cuts to an RT view. I had a physgun welded to my RT cam so it was in about the right place in it's view, then ran around with it on a server, stopped places and physgunned props in front of it so it looked like the beam was coming from the cam's physgun. People thought it was real.

LOL, nice!! I would probably fall for that.

I remember seeing you show that off in Drunkie's Pub! It was fucking cool!

Off Topic: Drunkie's Pub. For the win.

Matte, this is really inspiring to me. I am trying to learn 3d projections in the GPU now thanks to you!

Personally, I don't think the coding is slow. Yes, it might be slower than C or other high level languages, but once you get in the mood and know exactly what to write, it is surprisingly fast. I wrote the entire guitar hero code in about 5 hours. The thing that takes most of my time when writing GPU programs is the model db data. (So, I usually make a C# program do it for me, then c&p)

@Drunkie: Glad I inspired you. Once you learn how to do stuff, it's just extremely fun Don't hestitate to send me a PM if you are stuck.
