FSIM RFS is a big, massive, computerized, and shiny system that basically allows you to fly a plane safely in virtual envrionment - and possibly test your new plane designs.
It's a flight simulator. It simulates behaviour based on visual model (kind of like X-Plane, except very simplified). Yes, it runs inside Garry's Mod, and no, it's still under developement (right now I started physics engine, and done most important part of it).
Physics for the plane are calculated as following: aircraft model is specified by fuselage size, wing placement, vertical stabilizers placement, engines, and airfoil parameters (very basic). Then the simulator runs physics equations on every wing and stabilizer. And then it collects all those forces, and moves plane as they command.
Right now there's 80x80km terrain area, but no runways and no way to land on ground (yet!). Planes are rendered, and there's external view, first-person view, and cinematic camera view.
Left - real plane, right - computer model running inside simulation.
Simulator debug console - you can see it breaks down the plane into 5 simulated parts.
Entire terrain. Can't make it more detailed, sorry.
External view. It only lacks some fancy engine particle effects, and I think I can do that.
Prototype cockpit. It's now a bit neater, and hydraulics system is a lot better, but this is how it was before.
Source code as it is right now is available in GWCD SVN, but it's incomplete
