*drools* Best wiremod idea ever!
This is already possible with and without expression gates.Awesome, would it be possible to allow it to control parts of the map? You know when you press a button and a door opens, like in freespace03.[/b]

1. Spawn Button (off = 0, on = 1; toggle is off)
2. Spawn a user, aim it at the thing you want to use (a door, a button, etc)
3. Wire the user to the button
4. Enjoy
Will our old expressions be compatible with the new gate?
I have about 50 expressions I use, I'm not looking forward to re-writing them all.
Don't get me wrong, this gate sounds awesome and I AM looking forward to writing brand-new expressions
I'm really looking forward to this (pretty much everyone here does, i think).
Nova on the old boards.
dont forget to add support for console commands (like ent_fire)...and optional for server to prevent abuse (you all remember first barrel nuke dont u? :-P)
Great to hear that, not that much work left before there is _something_ that can be played around and tested, although a proper version is far off.YAY... overjoyed... Can't wait to the day we get an ETA, lol.
Think the v1 has been a little annoying recently, so really looking forward to getting a clean start on v2.[/b]
Multiline coding will be the only way.Wired Users. Also, multiline coding?[/b]
Uhm, the basic language is the same, however, if-statements are different now, and all experimental stuff like packet support and vectors will be gone (the way they are now, much better in the new version). So, you'll be able to use your old as long as you just do some work with them. Also, inputs, outputs etc won't be specified the same way. Will our old expressions be compatible with the new gate?

Will be there, and even better than before, concommand() exists for the current expression gate if you wish to do stuff, it executes the stuff as the player who spawned the gate.dont forget to add support for console commands (like ent_fire)...and optional for server to prevent abuse (you all remember first barrel nuke dont u? :-P)[/b]
On another note, things are going really slow at the moment, lots of other stuff to do, but it'll probably go up and down so should be able to squeeze some e-gate 2 in every now and then.
You mean between "char and integer" so to say?Oh! Ascii <-> letter conversion?[/b]
Yes of course, you'll have all kinds of stuff that you'll find necessary for dealing with strings etc, and if something useful is missing it can just be added later.
I'll even try to encourage those with some Lua knowledge to make their own extensions since it is so easy, and they could later be merged with the public code "if suitable".
I'll try to get a concept version working soon, where the language isn't all complete, but that at least can spawn a gate and work fairly well if you write proper code.![]()
Woohoo.. that's all I wanted to hear. I seriously can't wait for this. I'm so tired of being confined to those tiny edit fields and unable to tab between them.Multiline coding will be the only way.[/b]
If multiline coding is on the table.. I hope we can expect to see multiline commenting (e.g. /* commented <next line> text */). Ive always wanted that as a way to leave lengthy notes for myself. Would also be very useful for quckly knocking out blocks of code for testing.
Great job man.
