Ther is stuff that can do much more powerful stuff, but making a CPU out of these for example requiers skills. I guess the developers just want new ways to show off their skills.

You can make binary adders and all other binary chips, even registers and other latches/flip-flops (If you input the outputs). This enables you to make binary computers from scratch, which is cool.
You can also use it as a programmable memory for your computers.
This and a lot of other stuff.
