The plug and socket seem kind bugged right now.
For the sockets/plugs outputs to be updated you have to change the input, they will not get updated on connection/disconnection.
Also putting th eplug in the socket is hard becase the socket tends to swing around when you push the plug in with the physgun, and when u freeze the socket into place, the plug wont get in it...

The whole input/output thing has been bugged for as long as I've played, man. I don't think it'll ever get fixed.
I can't seem to stretch plugs between planets anymore </tears>
The plug refuses to go in, and if you force it, it explodes!
Here's what I found: you have to use Gravity Gun to put it in, and the Physics Gun to pull it out. MAKE NOTE OF IT
but even that wont fix the input/output thing :'(
